Good People. Strong Communities. Better Laramie
Good People. Strong Communities. Better Laramie
Moving from the big city suburbs of the Pacific Northwest, to small town Encampment, WY, Brett possesses perspective from both the big and small aspects of life. He has been a Laramie resident for 10-years (Wyomingite for almost 15), obtaining two degrees through the University of Wyoming. Brett currently works for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, studying detection methods of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). From this, he has gained an appreciation of wildlife, working for the people of Wyoming, and applying skills across various aspects of work and life. Brett is running for Laramie city council to represent the Ward 3 community. He hopes to act as a steward, balancing city sentiments with necessary action, promoting: 1) access to resources (e.g., housing, recreation and entertainment, and needed infrastructure); 2) local participation and transparency; and 3) proper planning in the face of next-generation technology and its growth.
Access to housing is one of the biggest issues facing towns across the United States. Laramie's housing market is no different, and requires prudent action. Taking the steps now for current and future familes, workers, and community members is vital for a thriving cultural hearth of Laramie as we move forward.
Active participation in local community and city affairs is worth striving for. Increasing access, education, transparency, and opportunity to participate is not only demanded of us, but necessary for flourishing, human purpose, and strong communities.
Data centers, general artificial intelligence, and a future focused on data collection and next generation technological advancements requires proper planning and due consideration to the people of Laramie. It will be necessary to make sure Laramie adopts "good neighbor" policies so companies are responsible for their negative local footprint, and are an overall benefit to our community, not a burden.
